“Becoming a professional 


1st of June 2023 I visited KwaZulu-Natal Society For the Blind (org)  situated in Durban.

The KwaZulu-Natal Blind and Deaf Society was established in 1936, their purpose is to provide services and opportunities that ultimately improve the quality of life of Blind and Partially-Sighted people. During the 1960s they extended their services to the Deaf.

The Society currently reaches the poor, unemployed African people living in rural areas who do not have the finances or ability to receive services. The greatest challenge that the Society faces, is how to improve these unfortunate individuals' quality of life. The sad situation is that these almost forgotten people are not only deprived, but also disabled, which leaves them feeling very inadequate and incapable, and the sad fact is that most of them receive no external assistance.

I volunteered as an assistant in the workshop office, under the supervision of Mr Gilbert Khowa (The workshop manager) and I was astonished by how much they have managed to achieve without relying on sight...

 “Becoming a Professional I am grateful for all the wonderful work the South African Government,  along with the Private sector,  has done for  SA citizens. Being aware of almost all the advantages and disadvantages we have in this country... worst-case scenarios could be imagined, but... I am confident enough that even though we've stumbled and fumbled ( Unemployment  rate, Poverty,  Large debt bill, rapidly growing number of criminal activities ,  Corruption inside our government and corporations,  etc.),  the worst is yet to pass. Though many of us won't be walking on this earth by the time South Africa  shifts from being a Developing country to being a  Developed country...  When we wake up every morning and contribute our skills, our time, our energy, our strengths, and all that we are ...  It is not because we don't feel the weight on our shoulders, it is not because we don't feel hopeless when we get so stre...
